Bee Yard Visit (February 22, 2023)

Today was a perfect day for beekeeping.  Sunny, warm and dry.  We've had a very warm February and the next couple of weeks look to be the same.  So, I decided now is the time to put the medium supers on the hives to take advantage of the early nectar flow.

Redbud trees, chicory, dandelions, oxalis, and even bluebonnets are starting to bloom.  (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Hive 02 is still building out the frames on their existing deep super.  The only work I did with this hive was to remove the sugar water feeder from inside as well as the empty super that was protecting it.  These bees are working hard, even though they are a little behind the other two colonies.

Hive 04 and 06 were both ready for supers, so I added one to each.  The super that I added to hive 04 has 10 frames that have comb already built out from last year, so they will have a head start.  The hive 06 super has 10 brand new frames.

I'm excited to see what will come of the next few weeks within the three colonies!
