Update on our "old" bees near Caldwell (July 3)
Every once in awhile, we're asked about our beehives that we have near Caldwell, Texas. We still have three colonies there, but we haven't "bothered" them for about a year and a half, and we decided we'd keep it that way. Truthfully, they've never been more healthy. They even survived through our 2021 Texas Winter Storm on February 15, when the temperature was at a historic low of 8 degrees with a high temperature of 19 degrees. These little creatures are amazing.
Here are photos of our three Caldwell hives on July 3, 2021. Hive 08 was always our most aggressive colony, which usually translates to a very successful colony. It has a honey super on top and I bet it is stuffed full of honey, since it has been there for over a year. (Click on photos to enlarge).
