Bee Visit (July 1)

Our the colonies were busting at the seams, so today we added a second deep hive box with 10 frames each to all three. (Click on photos to enlarge.)

It's been very rainy and hot for several weeks
here north of Houston.

The yellow sheets between the boxes are
Beetle Bee Gone sheets that help trap small hive beetles.

Our hives are in under trees and in the shade.
We have long summers and want to help keep our bees out of the hot sun.

Brood near the center of the frame and honey near the top.
Some of the honey is capped.

More honey near the top of this frame.
The bees are capping the honey.

This frame has more honey.
Notice the baby bees hatching? They slowly chew their way out.

More babies hatching at once. I counted about
twelve in this photo.
