Bee Visit (July 1)
Our the colonies were busting at the seams, so today we added a second deep hive box with 10 frames each to all three. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
It's been very rainy and hot for several weeks here north of Houston. |
The yellow sheets between the boxes are Beetle Bee Gone sheets that help trap small hive beetles. |
Our hives are in under trees and in the shade. We have long summers and want to help keep our bees out of the hot sun. |
Brood near the center of the frame and honey near the top. Some of the honey is capped. |
More honey near the top of this frame. The bees are capping the honey. |
This frame has more honey. Notice the baby bees hatching? They slowly chew their way out. |
More babies hatching at once. I counted about twelve in this photo. |
