September 30 Bee Yard Visit

Our bee yard visit this time was much more colorful than our last visit.  Since September 7, we have had plenty of rain and it has definitely helped our bees.   The grass is green and flowers can be found all around. (Click on photos to enlarge).

This was yet again another quick visit.  So quick that we didn't light our smoker or bother the colonies too much.  We brought along more sugar water, as we weren't sure if we'd find flowers blooming, as there were no flowers when we visited last.  This trip was mostly meant for us to feed our bees.

Each of our hives were in the exact same condition as we found them on our last visit on September 7, that is as far as we can tell from the outside.  We only opened two of our hives for quick checks; hive 01 and hive 06.

We definitely wanted to peek inside hive 06, as that is one that could easily become overrun with pests in the empty space where five frames are missing.  But, all was good in this hive and we're happy that they're doing so well.

We loaded up the jars once again with sugar water, even though there are flowers around.  We want our bees to have as much honey as they can, as we are approaching colder months.  Our next visit will be in two or three weeks when we will treat the hives for varroa mites before winter arrives.
